Pipe Cutting Robot vs High-Pressure Water Jetting: Which Method Is Better for Pipe Obstruction Removal?
2026-09-24
Pipe cutting robots and high-pressure water jetting are both used for internal pipeline maintenance, but they are suited to different types of obstructions. Water jetting uses high-pressure water to clean pipes and remove soft or loose deposits, grease, sediment, and some root intrusion. A pipe cutting robot uses a mechanical cutting tool for more localized and controlled removal of hard or resistant materials such as tree roots, concrete, steel bars, hardened deposits, and CIPP liner material. In many pipeline projects, the two methods are complementary rather than competing technologies: water jetting can be used for cleaning and preparation, while robotic cutting can address specific obstructions that require mechanical cutting.
